Women Entries in Indian Army – UPSC Entry, Non UPSC Entry & Technical Entry

In today’s world there is no field in which women candidates are not working. The presence of women can be seen in almost every field. Also in government and private jobs a huge strength of female aspirants is working with male candidates.

Now women are also inducted in all three wings of Defense services- Indian Army, Air Force & Indian Navy. The strength of female candidates in Indian armed force is increasing day by day. We want to tell one thing about them that they have an extreme feeling of indomitable courage and sacrifice.

The main aim of this article is to explain the various Women Entries of Becoming an Officer in prestigious Indian Army. Today we will discuss the various ways of women entries. These various ways for joining Indian Army is distributed mainly into 3 categories:

  • UPSC Entry
  • Non-UPSC Entry
  • Technical Entry

Lady Officer in Indian Army

In 1992 women started inducted in Indian Army as officer cadre with the task of training undertaken by OTA (Officers Training Academy). More than 1300 ladies cadets have already commissioned in various services of Indian Army. At least Graduation Degree is compulsory for female candidates.

The selection process for female candidates is same as followed by male candidates. Firstly, the aspirants have to qualify the written exam of CDSE, and for SSCW Tech and NCC entries there is direct shortlisting on the basis of cutoff marks. Then the qualified candidates of written exam are called for SSB at various selection centers of female candidates in Indian Army. The various ways of women entries after their graduation is as:

Women’s Special Entry Scheme Officers

Under this procedure the women candidates as commissioned officer will be able to serve the army for 5 years duration. Further on voluntary basis they can serve a period of 2 year. Later during emergencies they can be recalled for their duty.

SSC Women Non Tech/UPSC Entry

The female candidates can join Indian Army through Short Service Commission (Non-Technical) Women Entry Scheme. The eligibility criteria under this scheme for women candidates are as:

Non UPSC Entries

There are two entries under Non UPSC – NCC special entry and judge advocate general (JAG) entry. The qualification and requirements for both these entries of SSC Women is discussed below in brief:

SSCW NCC Special Entry Women

Notification July/December
Qualification Graduation with aggregate 50% marks in any discipline and a two year NCC “C” certificate with minimum “B” grade.

Training Course Date April and October
Training Time & Center  49 weeks at OTA Chennai

SSCW Judge Advocate General (JAG) Women Entry

Education Qualification LLB Graduate with 55% marks and registered with Bar Council of State/India
Age Limit 21-27 Years
Marital Status Unmarried
No. of Selections 04
SSB Date June – July and December – January
Training Period April and October
Training Duration  49 weeks at OTA Chennai

 SSCW (Tech) Entry

The female candidates having engineering graduate degree are eligible for SSCW (Tech) entry. The detailed eligibility criteria are as:

Also there are some other entries like Army Education Corps, Army Medical Corps which commissioned female candidates on direct entries. They only need some basic requirements and availability. Also the women are inducted in these various corps if they qualify above discussed one of the women entries.
